Shafir’s Journey
Our Story
Shafir’s Journey is a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization created to help children with spinal cord injuries. We provide access to life sustaining medical equipment such as wheelchairs, supplies and advocacy.
Shafir’s Journey was born out of a tragedy turned into gratitude and charity. The founder and CEO Jasmine Tate-Supplee founded the charity to honor her son Shafir.
In 2023 Shafir was shot by a stray bullet in Philadelphia while playing basketball in a playground with his friends. The bullet pierced his spine, and several life essential organs. He was diagnosed with paraplegia and paralyzed from the waist down.
After being hospitalized he went to inpatient therapy at Shriner’s Hospital where he began his journey to recovery.
During hospital stays and throughout his journey Shafir and our Founder encountered many children in need of medical equipment and supplies. They also encountered children that had been left by their parents or guardians due to their new physical disability.
Jasmine decided she would help the children she met during this life changing journey and the many children she had yet to meet in very similar circumstances.
Shafir’s Journey was born to honor her son and all children with spinal cord injuries.

Our Founder and CEO
Jasmine Tate-Supplee is the Founder and CEO of Shafir's Journey and Broker/Owner of Philly Luxe Realty. She is a dedicated wife and mother of 3 boys. After a decade in the real estate industry she decided to take her passion for business, community and the advancement of all people to the nonprofit sector after a tragic accident with her oldest son. Her oldest son, Shafir was shot by a stray bullet while playing basketball in a playground with his friends. Her son was paralyzed from the waist down due to this incident. During their months in the hospital and inpatient rehabilitation, Jasmine and Shafir noticed a grave disparity in the other children suffering from spinal cord injuries. From a lack of access to life sustaining medical equipment and supplies to sometimes being abandoned by their families due to not being able to care properly for them. Jasmine felt there was something that needed to be done to help the children and their families. She began Shafir's Journey, a 501 (c)3 charity to help children suffering from spinal cord injuries obtain life sustaining medical equipment, supplies and advocacy. The nonprofit provides wheelchairs, health/sanitary supplies and matches volunteers to children suffering from spinal cord injuries that complete weekly or biweekly visits with them at their home or for children that have been left a ward of the state in their medical institution. She is very passionate about the nonprofit's mission and helping as many children and their families as possible get the equipment, care and equity that they deserve as she continues to go through this journey with her own son every day.
